Where Has Make Up by CG Been?????

Sorry I have fallen off the edge of the earth, or so it appears! So what exactly have I been up to? Well, I did some amazing photo shoots at the beginning of the year and also have been generally busy with life. I have been working  with some very talented models and photographers lately too. Here are some fun shots of the makeup I did in Rhode Island with Twisted Image Studios. The model is the gorgeous Christine Jenna.

While I don’t have any photos yet, I also did makeup and hair for my first magazine cover. Photos to come soon! It was a fun photo shoot for a martial arts magazine and training video to boot. The model (Danielle Halley) and photographer (Brian Hall of Brian Hall Pictures) were amazing to work with.

I also had a chance to work a couple of bridal shows which led to a lots of networking opportunities, of course I also booked some weddings from the show.

Inspired by the Hunger Games I organized a successful photo-shoot in which I had  the opportunity to meet and work with models, Sarah Skittles and Maddy Wooding. The  photographer Leanne Gelish did an amazing job with the photos and capturing the vision. Here is  some of the great work that was done that day!

Along with all those exciting events I have continued offering  the Makeup education parties along with my spa treatments and waxing’s.

In other news we found out that we are expecting baby number three!!!  Not sure what sex this little person is yet but we can’t wait to welcome another child into our family. That being said I have also been very sick for the first three months of this pregnancy 🙁 so haven’t been myself lately. For those that are curious my due date is September 26th so I will not be taking any appointment or bookings for the month of September for sure and I will play it by ear for October (hard to let my favorite month go by without any fun makeup applications).

So all in closing, I am back on track and ready to take on the world for the next five months or until my belly is in the way of beautifying your faces! I appreciate all the love and support that I have been getting and as always I cherish referrals and feedback.  Like me on Facebook, follow me on Twitter and subscribe to my blog (in the upper right hand corner).

Mi Casa Es Su Casa

The first impression on having my studio in my home hasn’t always been a good one.

Scared Cat

Scared Cat

I have a suspicion many people feel I am not 100% legal due to operating out of my home. While this may seem weird to some, I have gone through a lengthy process that ensures my clients safety in all aspects to include health, tax and local zoning laws. So hopefully I can help reject any withholding’s anyone may have for coming to see me.

Why would I want to have my studio in my home, well there are many reasons. Such as having my studio in my home allows me to work around my clients schedules. I am able to work 7 days a week 24 hours a day if I wish, but I am still in my home to fold my laundry, make my family dinner or help my children with homework in between my clients.

A Working Mom

A Working Mom

Another very important aspect as a small business owner is my overhead is a lot less then an actual shop where I pay rent. I am able to pass this savings along to my clients (There are lots of other expenses and hoops to jump through with having it in home but I think it benefits my needs and my clients better at this point in my life/business stage). The last major benefit for me is scheduling, if my husbands schedule changes due to being military I don’t need to cancel my appointments since my children are home safe and I am available for an emergency.

Now onto my in home studios downfalls, at first I find people are skeptical about coming into my home, especially for private appointments. I cannot assure you enough, myself and my family have the utmost professionalism and respect for the privacy of all of my clients. I have set my studio in a quiet and private room complete with a bathroom next to the studio for my clients use.

Now sure you may hear my dog, kids or see my cat sleeping in the sun but it’s my home. I welcome you as my guest and try to make you feel as comfortable as possible.

If you have been wanting to visit me but hesitant then the holidays are the perfect time. I have been busy decorating and making it festive. My December promo is a free hand treatment with any service, which everyone needs in the winter! Contact me to make your appointment.  Make up for Christmas Parties, Photos, Waxing for all your special events, lessons and natural manicures. I am the one stop shop for beauty.

Beware of “Professional” Photographers and what I (Make up by CG) can do for you?

So lately a lot of professional photographers have contacted me for my rates on makeup/hair for photo shoots. I try to work deals with the photographers BUT can only go so low without loosing money on my end. There are two parts to the work that I do, one my time, two my professional products. Remember, you get what you pay for! Regardless, make sure you do your research, if you are doing a photo shoot with a so called “professional” photographer then make sure that the makeup artist they hired or referred to you does good work. Specifically be on the lookout for which products they use, how much experience they have with lighting, posing, etc.

Red_Riding_Hood (18 of 21)

Its an insult from one professional to another when the photographer charges hundreds of dollars for the photo-shoot AND photos but thinks $50 is too much for hair AND makeup.

Buyer beware! It isn’t necessary to spend top dollar, just make sure that the artist(s) (makeup artist and photographer) have your best interest at the top of their priority list and not just about raking in the $$$$$$.

So this leads me back to the title of my post, what can I do for you?

  • I can guarantee excellent customer service, clean and sanitary products/working environment.
  • My full and undivided attention to you while you are in my chair.
  • The most up to date trends, looks and colors (and if for some reason I don’t know, I will find out for you) and I will not tell you something that you want to hear.
  • Honesty is very important to me and my business. Honesty builds trust and trust builds clients.

I have worked with so many talented and honest photographers, so if you are in need of photos with or without make up and hair I can always make referrals for you too. For most this is an investment and something you don’t do all the time, so it should be a whole experience and you should be the “top model”.

Once again I value comments, followers on twitter , likes on FB  and subscribers to my blog (in the upper right hand corner of your screen)!

Keep me in mind the next time you need a makeup artist or photographer, let my expertise help you with both! Big Smiles, CG

Long Time, Lots to be Thankful For!

Well Halloween is now over and my month was everything I had hoped it would be, I had so much fun doing a ton of different looks and photographed some awesome people. It’s never too late to get in touch with your inner alter ego and dress up as anything you want, we can still do the “Halloween Pin Up photo shoot” for anyone at anytime.

But, now onto more exciting things from Make Up by CG. For November (The month to be thankful!) I would like to offer half off waxing AND makeovers, that’s only $25*! Now is a perfect time to start planning for your holiday photos, parties or just make a new start with makeup. We all need to stay on budget for the holidays but don’t forget to pamper yourself, holidays are even better if we feel good and put our best face forward!

We can always do holiday photos for you or I can help you set up a photo shoot for you and your family, I have worked with some awesome photographers in the past.

This is customer appreciation month, as I am so thankful for all my clients! Keep calm and give thanks!

As always, “Like” me, subscribe, “Pin” me, and comment. Tell all your friends too.

* Makeovers are for basic makeup only, no hair or lashes are included in the $25 price but can be purchased in addition to the makeover.

October Special

I am doing a whole blog on my October Special (please share with all your friends). I am so excited about this one. I LOVE Halloween and dress up so I have planned a  photo shoot around my passions! You can see some of my trial work I have been doing on myself the past couple of weeks. I also had a chance to try out my skills on a really great friend. The photos are all done by my husband and I.  As we are not photographers it’s a passion that we both enjoy and have been doing lots of training, and practice with. We first got started so that we could capture my work without having to hire a professional to live in my back pocket to capture each make up test, job and education I do.  As we don’t want to step on anyone’s toes as far as the photography goes we make an awesome team together and we are 100% dependable with each other.  As a professional we have the up most respect for anyone who does proper training, procedures and operates within the law  (i.e. licenses, insurance, taxes, etc).  You can see the capability of the photos we are able to capture  in this blog, by all means if you would like to hire your own photographer for this shot at your own expense above my price you are more then welcome to do that. The shoot will still need to be at my studio in Gales Ferry.

So here are the details you all have been waiting for. The whole shoot will last for about 4 hours, you bring your own costume (we will talk about it before the shoot) any props you want ( I have a ton too), and I will do your hair and make up. The whole deal will start at $50*.  That cost will also include one unmarked picture you will receive digitally. We will also have more pictures you can purchase via cd if you would like to purchase more, this allows us to keep the cost low for you.

*$50 covers basic makeup application on the face for the costume look. Lashes can be purchased separately and additional charge if more makeup is needed for body.

Check out the slideshow of the transformation to a zombie, we had so much fun.

Here is the finished products. Lots of different looks and I have a ton more spooky settings and props to use. Don’t forget to Pin the ones you like!

Happy Haunting, don’t forget to subscribe to my blog,  like me on FB and share me with all your friends.

What would you like to know?

I had a request to do a question and answer blog, so here it is. I want to know what you have questions about and or what you would like to learn about. I would also like to know if you would like to see more videos or if you like reading the blog with step by step?

This is a perfect time to ask anything, even if it’s a product review. Ill buy it and try it and let you know what I think.

As always I have Education Parties once a month and go over certain make up areas. Thursday Sept 19th will be the next one and it’s on Brows. You will learn how to groom, what face shape you have and what products to use. This class will also include a wax. Contact me for more information. I can also do private Make Up parties or lessons one on one.

So now Ask Away, what do you want to know, or have always wondered about??????

A Tour of the STUDIO

I wanted to show off my studio a little more for those of you who have not had a chance to visit!

It is a small but cozy spot and it can transform to accommodate any service I offer. My two staple pieces of furniture would be my make up chair and massage table, the make up chair is pretty cool since it can fold  up and go with me on location.

The massage bed also folds up to make more room in my studio which is necessary! I don’t take my bed on location (too heavy). The bed I use is for waxing of any type, facials and pedicures.

I also have a cosmetology chair that is awesome for when I do hair for events and photo shoots, it is right next to a dresser that I refinished. It holds all the hair products, towels and sheets.

My nail station is an old sewing machine table. It’s pretty cool because the top flips open and all my products are stored inside but also the client can sit on the other side of me and be comfortable. I really like this because I get to up-cycle!

Of course I have a vanity for ALL the make up. It’s also where I sit when I’m making my videos. P1030685

Over all it’s a pretty cool space that I am proud of and love having clients come to, I try to make them feel comfortable and at home. My decor is a reflection of my personality and filled with colors and things that I love that help to inspire me.

If you haven’t made an appointment and seen it yet, then what are you waiting for? Now is a perfect time with my September service special, pedicure and facial. I am offering the full relaxation experience.

Also don’t forget my next education will be on brows, Thursday September 19th at 6 pm. This class includes waxing and grooming of the eyebrows (included in the class price).

Another incentive will be a referral program, if you refer two friends then you will receive 50% your next appointment. *(50% will be applied only after the two friends have completed their appointments).

As always, I would love to hear feedback and comments. Like Me and  subscribe!

Making My Mark On The World

Here is a post all about me! These  are a couple different looks that I have been playing with and having a lot of fun while doing it. Enjoy!

This is a Zombie inspired look, I had so much fun making wounds on my face. I mixed red blood and black zombie blood. The trick to making it look wet and real is Vaseline and lots of blending of the colors. I lightened the color on my face and darkened my eyes to give a more “dead” look but you don’t want to go too white as to where you look like a clown.

IMG_1617 IMG_1613

Here is one up close of my forehead.

Another look I did was Steampunk, this is a genre of science fiction that typically features steam-powered machinery rather than advanced technology. Especially in a setting inspired by industrialized western civilization during the 19th century. Hence the gears!

Ill be doing some more fun looks very soon! Thanks for checking out my work and happy pinning.

Motivation 101 and Random Birthday Niceness

Believing in myself?!?! I have confidence, I believe that am a great person and Makeup Artist but when it comes to telling people about my business or how awesome I am, I just CAN’T do it. I hold back and assume that people won’t want to hear about “me” or I don’t want to bother anyone. We have all been there, that time when someone gave us a business card and we just stash it away or throw it in the nearest trash can. For some reason I assume that is what everyone will do with my mine, so I ask myself again why bother? I know that if I change my thought process and remind myself that it has worked for others (for every five business cards passed out, one person may contact me) then that’s one more person than I would have received not trying.

My master plan…….. put on my big girl panties and grow a pair lol. I have some goals that I am going to set to push me way outside my comfort zone.  Since it’s my birthday next week, I can make my own rules! I want to not only do stuff for me but I want to do one random act of kindness each day this week for a random person. I’ll post my random acts on FB to keep myself on track. I also set a goal to hand out 15 business cards this week to random people.

I would love to hear feedback from anyone else that may feel the same way I do or that has some awesome recommendations. Subscribe to my blog to follow my posts, like me on FB and I’m on twitter too!

I’m good enough, smart enough, nice enough and gosh darn it, it’s ok if I fail (as long as I get back up).

Thanks, CG
